约数与概数
表示「大约」和「成百上千」这类不确切的数量。

要点
- about、around 表示「大约」，放数词前面；or so 放数词后面。
- hundreds of / thousands of / millions of 表示模糊的大数目，of 不能省。
- 前面有具体数字时不加 s、也不接 of：two hundred people。
- dozens of / scores of 也是同一类模糊量。
- about 与 over / more than 不是一回事：about five hundred 是"上下浮动"，over（more than）five hundred 是"只多不少"，under / less than 是"只少不多" —— 方向不能互换。
- at least（至少）与 at most（最多）说的是下限与上限：At least two hundred came（不少于两百人），它比"大约"多的一层是只保一个方向。
- 模糊量要一层层标出来：tens of thousands of people（数万人）—— 哪一层是模糊的，那一层就加 s 并接 of；写成 tens of thousand 或 ten of thousands 就是把两层搅在一起。

易错提示
- 有具体数字时 hundred/thousand/million 一律单数，且不加 of：five thousand students。
- 拿不准就看后面有没有 of —— 有 of 才是模糊量。
- millions of 前面不能再压具体数字：two million people 与 millions of people 只挑一句，写 two millions of people 就同时踩了两套规矩。
- 中文"两三、五六"那种把两个数字并着说的办法英语没有 —— 要说 two or three books、five or six days，中间必须挂 or。
