集合名词
一群人或物作主语，谓语单复要看语义。
看作整体 → 单数；强调成员 → 复数
要点
- family、class、team 这类表示「一群」的词叫集合名词。
- 把整体看作一个单位时，谓语用单数。
- 强调其中的每一个成员时，谓语用复数。
- people、police 本身就是复数概念，谓语永远用复数。
- 集合名词自己也是可数的：a family → two families，a team → three teams。
- 谓语选单还是复，看后面的代词最准：The team is playing its game.（整体）／The team are putting on their uniforms.（成员）。
- cattle、people、police 永远跟复数谓语，且不加 -s：The police are looking for the man.
- a group of + 复数名词作主语时，按整体看用单数、按成员看用复数，两种都算对，同一句里别混用。
例句
Family is very important.
家庭非常重要。
This is my family.
这是我的家人。
The team worked together to achieve their goal.
团队一起努力实现了目标。
The pupils in this class are nine and ten years old.
这个班的学生九岁和十岁。
Our class has forty-five students.
我们班有四十五名学生。
The police are asking questions about the fire.
警察正在询问关于那场火的事。
易错提示
- The family is large.（整体，用单数）／The family are watching TV.（成员，用复数）
- people 不加 -s，police 也不加 —— 它们后面永远跟复数谓语。
- 英式英语更常按成员用复数（The team are…），美式多用单数（The team is…）；考试时看同一句里用的是 it 还是 they。
- 「一群」这个词本身要变复数：two families of deer，别把 deer 那侧也变。
