if / whether 引导的宾语从句
表「是否」时 if 与 whether 常可互换，但有五种场合只能用 whether。

要点
- 表「是否」作宾语时 if 与 whether 一般可互换：Please tell me if / whether you are free.
- 介词之后只能用 whether：I am not interested in whether he will come.
- whether 紧跟不定式时用 whether：I don't know whether to stay or go.
- 直接与 or not 连用时用 whether：I don't know whether or not he will come.
- 从句位于句首作主语、或作表语、同位语时用 whether，不用 if：Whether we go depends on the weather.
- "是否"这一层的 whether / if 两可主要活在日常英语里；正式书面、规章条文与小标题更偏 whether —— 判它先看文体，再查那五种只能用 whether 的位置。
- 同一个句子里挤着两个 if 时（一个"如果"、一个"是否"），读的人要靠猜 —— 写作里把"是否"那个换成 whether：If you have time, let me know whether you can come. 就不会两义相叠。

易错提示
- 宾语从句里的 if 是「是否」不是「如果」，两句长得一样意思不同：I don't know if he will come.（我不知道他是否会来）
- 考试专挑「只能用 whether」的四项：介词后、whether or not、whether to do、句首作主语。
- 换得动就是"是否"：把句子里那个 if 试着换成 whether，换得通又不变意思，它就不是条件句 —— 这是读题与默写时最快的一测。
- 挑连接词之前先排掉三样更硬的错：从句语序倒了、时态没呼应、介词后面塞了 that —— 这三处比 if / whether 之争更容易扣分（分别见本类另几条）。
