would rather / had better
两个短语后面都接动词原形：一个表「宁愿」，一个表「最好还是」。
would rather (not) do ／ would rather do A than do B ／ had better (not) do
要点
- would rather「宁愿」，后接动词原形（不带 to）：I would rather stay at home.
- 两者比较用 would rather do A than do B：我宁可做 A 也不做 B。
- would rather 的否定是 would rather not do：I would rather not go there.
- had better「最好」，用于建议或警告，否定是 had better not do：You'd better not smoke here.
- would rather 后接从句要用过去式表将来：I would rather you came tomorrow.
- would rather 后的从句用过去式说现在或将来，用过去完成时说"真希望当时怎样"：I would rather you came tomorrow.（明天你来）／ I would rather you had told me earlier.（当时你就该告诉我）。
- had better 只管眼前这一件具体的事，且暗含"不做就吃亏"：You'd better take an umbrella; it looks like rain. —— 泛泛讲道理该用 should，不是一直用 had better。
- than 后面同样接动词原形，既不接 to do 也不接 doing：would rather stay than leave —— 前后两头都光着，只有一处动词原形。

易错提示
- would rather 和 had better 后面的 to 一律丢掉，写 would rather to do 是错的。
- I'd 可能是 I would 也可能是 I had：看后面有没有 rather / better 就知道是哪一个。
- 答语里 rather 后面能整个省掉：— Would you rather come with us? — I'd rather not.（我还是不去了）—— not 留着，动词不写。
- had better 后面不存在 to：说 had better not go 对，说 had better to go 就错 —— 它看着像"有 to"的词组，其实和 would rather 一样接原形。
